FLUFFY FRIENDS

Animals of all kinds bring me great joy.  I cannot imagine a world without animals to love and care for and have learned so much about myself from the animals who have come into my life.

A Story About Luca

Luca the alpaca was a precious animal that I had the honor and privilege of loving and caring for.  Luca was not like any other alpaca because of his unusual birth circumstances.  Luca’s mother had trouble giving birth to Luca causing him to be delayed in his growth.  As a result, it was necessary for humans to care for him because sadly, his mother rejected him.  A local family who runs a farm took Luca in and raised him in their home. When he had grown enough to be placed outside, they put him with the sheep and goats because of his small size.

My family, along with other families, volunteered to be on call to care for Luca in any way necessary. I visited him on a daily basis because I loved him so much.  I was responsible for feeding him and petting him.  My connection to Luca grew every day, and I realized how important we were to each other. Unfortunately Luca went through a very difficult situation when he was being shaved in the summer, never fully recovered and passed away. I will never forget my love for Luca and all he taught me about life and caring for all creatures no matter their circumstances.

Crystal The Chicken

One summer, my family and I decided to get some chickens to raise because we love animals and wanted a new adventure.  We had four chickens and loved them all.  However, there was one very unique and special chicken named Crystal.  Crystal was a rooster who loved me more than anything in the world. One day, my mother and I decided to take a hike in the woods with our dog Flora.  Surprisingly, Crystal jumped on my arm and made it clear that he wanted to join us! We were shocked but decided to give it a try because we knew how much Crystal loved me and knew he wouldn’t leave us.  And we were right!  Crystal successfully hiked with us and this became a daily routine.  We decided at one point to take a five hour hike and bring Crystal along. You guessed it - he was a champion hiker and attracted much attention from fellow hikers along the trail.  You might even say Crystal became famous that day and had to pose for several photo opportunities; everyone wanted a photo with the famous hiking rooster!  While Crystal was a champion hiker, I knew the truth - he just wanted to be near me at all cost.  My connection with animals knows no bounds!

My Other Family Member

From the time I was a young child, Flora has been a big part of my life.  Flora is our family’s beautiful Welsh Corgi, and I call her my sibling. Flora and I have grown up together and have had a strong and empathetic bond since we have known each other.  Flora and I just seem to know what each other is thinking and how to help one another.  For instance, I am able to tell when Flora needs extra love just by the way she looks at me; we are that close. I have also learned so much from Flora because I have had to feed her and walk her as part of my chores. Earning money caring for Flora has taught me to save and budget in order to purchase a special item or experience a fun event. Although I love all animals, Flora holds a very special place in my heart.

Harry the Cat

My cat, Harry, came into my life because of an experience I had with an outdoor cat who lived in the woods behind my house. One day when I was walking my dog Flora, I noticed a stray cat who looked like he was lost. My mother and I were able to take him in and actually found his owner. However, I often found excuses to go back to the spot in the woods where I first found him just to make sure he wasn’t lost again.  My mother noticed my love for this stray cat and decided I needed a cat of my own.  Harry came into my life and my heart through my deep love for animals and has filled me with more joy than I could have ever imagined.

Ada The Bird

A few years ago, I really wanted a bird. Not any type of bird, a parakeet or a budgie! I love its cute fluffy feathers and really wanted one! I begged my parents but they said no. Until one day, my dad came home from work and surprised me with 2 birds! There was one blue bird that stuck out to me. It felt like she was reaching to me from the cage. I knew that this was going to be a bond come true.

I immediately fell in love! And as soon as she looked at me, it was a bond forever!

I named her Ada. Me and Ada had a variety of bonds. We did everything together. Once, I took her outside for a few minutes to feel the nature and trees, and we both enjoyed it very much! Me and Ada often played together, and I even made a paper house to put her cage in there and decorated it! Then, me and Ada decided to try something new. We took her to our yard to play. And she actually loved it! She got so excited she tried to fly, but landed on the grass! We took some pictures with her on the table and it was so cute! She was the Queen of the parakeets - the one and only Ada! Everyday Ada and I would explore our yard and roam the amazing mini mountains that are in our yard! We had a great time!

My bond with animals can go off with no limits whatsoever!
